Established in 1955, A.M.P. (Government) Law College, Rajkot, holds the distinction of being the first state-run law institution in the Saurashtra region. Initially functioning under Dharmendrasinhji College, it gained independent status in 1978. The college was later renamed in honour of Late Shri Amrutlal Mansang Parekh a respected philanthropist known for his invaluable contributions to education and society.
Since its inception, the college has remained affiliated with Saurashtra University. It complies with the academic and professional standards set by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and holds recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) as well as accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
The flagship program of the institution is the three-year LL.B. degree, open to graduates from any stream. Eligibility requires a minimum of 45% marks in the qualifying degree (42% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST categories). The college enforces a professional dress code and a disciplined academic environment, preparing students effectively for future roles in the legal and judicial systems.
A.M.P. Law College is equipped with modern infrastructure, including a well-stocked library featuring up-to-date legal texts and journals, technologically supported lecture halls, moot courtroom, an auditorium, sports facilities, and computer lab. In 2012, the college launched a Legal Aid Centre in collaboration with the district judiciary. This initiative provides students with hands-on experience in extending legal assistance, particularly to underprivileged and incarcerated individuals—reflecting the college’s commitment to justice and social responsibility.
Over the years, the college has produced a distinguished cadre of alumni who have gone on to serve as judges, vice-chancellors, political leaders, administrators, and legal experts. Their achievements continue to enhance the college’s reputation and societal impact.
From its humble origins within a shared campus to its emergence as a prominent independent law institution, A.M.P. (Government) Law College has witnessed significant evolution since 1955. Its steadfast commitment to academic excellence, ethical practice, and social equity firmly establishes it as a cornerstone of legal education in Gujarat.
To impart comprehensive legal education, shaping competent professionals committed to ethical practice, community development, and empowerment through sustained academic and research initiatives.

The emblem of A.M.P. Government Law College, Rajkot, features two elements: an image of Lady Justice and a motto.
The statue of Lady Justice symbolizes that justice is aware of societal complexities and not blind to individual circumstances, ensuring justice is delivered with full knowledge. The Indian Constitution, highlights that justice is rooted in constitutional principles and fairness rather than punishment. The statue wears a saree reflecting Indian traditions and cultural identity. The scales in her hand symbolize the continued impartial weighing of evidence and consideration of both sides of a case.
( न्यायसूत्र )
( Where there is justice , there should be valid evidence )
( From Nyaya Sutras )
The Sanskrit phrase न्यायस्तत्र प्रमाण स्यात् ( Nyayastatra praman syat ) aligns well with the ethos of a law college. Deeply rooted in the Indian philosophical tradition , particularly the Nyaya School, this nyaysutra underscores the inseparable link between justice ( Nyaya ) and evidence ( Praman ). The Nyaya Sutras attributed to Gautama outline a rigorous methodology for determining truth through logical analysis and valid sources of knowledge (pramanas). This interpretation emphasizes that justice is not arbitrary but must be rooted in credible evidence.
Teaching staff include regular faculty and visiting faculty.
VISITING FACULTY
Qualified visiting faculty members are invited by the college as and when required, in line with Gujarat Government regulations.
